Packing Lists

Here’s a collection of checklists for you to copy-pasta when you’re getting ready for the big weekend.

Please remember the “copy-paste” part of that and don’t check things off the Notion version…

Packing Lists

Water and Hydration

You know this, but make sure you get enough non-alcoholic fluids, which means make sure you take enough non-alcoholic fluids.

Here’s a simple guide to making sure you’re prepared:

  1. Take your own bottled water. It’s not worth rolling the dice on the tap water. Rule of thumb: 2L per day for women, 3L per day for men. Nice-to-have is a water barrel with a tap.
  2. Carry a water bottle. Ideally with a hook and a carabiner to clip to yourself. Fill it up every time you leave camp and always have it with you - you’re more likely to drink if you have it.
  3. Pack rehydrate sachets. This is great for those morning-afters where you need to replenish all the electrolytes you sweated out the night before.
  4. Take breaks from alcohol. This is particularly important on longer festivals and just helps you reset and clear your mind.

Food and Cooking

Food might be the part of festival-going that is most down to personal preference. At one end of the spectrum you could despise preparing food and just buy all your food from the vendors. At the other you could produce 3-course dishes for every meal with your 4x4 trailer kitchen, weber and poitjie pot.

It can be tempting to “wing it” and not pack enough food and water (or just junk food). Additionally, the other substances we indulge in can suppress our appetite or thirst. Be aware of this and put in the time and effort to fuel yourself appropriately.
